Twenty-four years ago I backpacked Western Europe with my 17-year-old son, who had just graduated from high school.
Our itinerary highlighted things to see and do in six countries during the month of June.
When we arrived back in California in early July, I was a different person. My physical and emotional self was the same, but my spiritual self was wide awake and processing the experiences of the trip. This was a nice surprise, but I didn’t know what to do with it. My spiritual self wasn’t something I had been developing at that time in my life.

It’s common to hear people say, I love to travel.
They love it because it’s new, interesting, and a change of pace. But what they don’t think about is what it does to their inner self.
Travel offers fresh experiences in a new environment while it deepens your understanding of people. In a foreign land, you may be unable to read or speak the language, the food is not familiar, and the culture and customs may require interpretation and an adjustment in the way you act in the world.
